Solas — Gaelic for light. The mark behind this practice: a light that helps people find their way out of the darkest of times.

About Katherine

Reaching out for help isn't easy, and I don't take it lightly that you're even reading this page. My work is built around one belief: people heal best when they get to make their own choices about what that healing looks like. I'm here to help you find your footing, not to hand you a script to follow.

I've spent seven years working with teenagers and adults through stress, big life transitions, trauma, depression, and anxiety — six of those years here in Rockmart. I welcome clients from every cultural background, and this is a fully affirming space for LGBTQIA+ clients. Whatever brought you here, there's room for it in this work.

Life gets heavy, but it doesn't stay that way forever. A lot of what we do together is finding the light that's already in you and helping it catch again — which is where this practice's name, Solas, comes from.

Graduate work at Mercer University, undergraduate degree from the University of North Georgia.

Areas of Focus

The kinds of work I keep coming back to

Trauma

Working at the pace the nervous system can actually handle

However it happened — recently or years ago — trauma has a way of staying in the body long after the event is over. We build safety first, and only move toward the harder material once that foundation is steady.

Anxiety

Finding the floor again when worry has taken over

When worry starts running the show — sleep, relationships, work, the small decisions of an ordinary day — counseling can help you get some ground back. We pair practical tools with an honest look at what's underneath the anxiety.

Teens & Adolescents

Meeting teenagers where they actually are

I work with preteens through older teens on stress, depression, anxiety, and the rougher patches of growing up. Sessions are built around a teen's own voice — not a report back to parents, but real space for a young person to work through what they're carrying.

Couples

Slowing the conversation down enough to actually hear each other

Every couple that ends up in counseling has stopped understanding each other in some way. We slow things down enough to hear what's actually being said underneath the argument, and start rebuilding from there.

Also here for: depression, life transitions, anger management, parenting challenges, self-esteem, self-harm recovery, spirituality and identity, and relationship or interpersonal issues more broadly.

What to Expect

Getting started, from first call to ongoing care

There's no set formula for how counseling unfolds, but the beginning tends to follow the same shape.

First

Reach out

Call (706) 237-9735 for a short conversation about what's bringing you in, and any questions about insurance or scheduling. No pressure to commit on that first call.

Next

Your first session

We spend the first session getting the full picture — what's brought you in, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping looks different on the other side of this.

Ongoing

Sessions that fit the work

From there, we move at whatever pace fits what you're working through, with honest check-ins along the way about whether it's actually helping.

Fees & Insurance

Insurance and self-pay, both welcome

Using insurance

Solas Counseling accepts insurance. Benefits vary quite a bit from plan to plan, so the most reliable way to know your exact costs is to call and talk it through before your first session.

Self-pay

Self-pay is also available for anyone who prefers to keep insurance out of the process entirely, or whose plan isn't in network. Call for current session rates.

Call (706) 237-9735 with your insurance card in hand and we'll help you figure out coverage before you ever set foot in the office.

Service Area

Serving Rockmart and the surrounding foothills

  • Aragon
  • Taylorsville
  • Van Wert
  • Braswell
